Rolex GMT-Master 1675/3 16753 Rootbeer Gilt Nipple Dial – 1976
One of our favourite series in the long line of GMT’s, the 1675 embodies all that is great about vintage GMT’s. It can’t help but evoke dreams of vast intercontinental trips during the golden age of air travel. The 1675/3 added some glam to the 1675 series, being Rolex’s first two-tone sports watch, and you can’t help but feel very 70’s chic with this thing strapped to your wrist.
This particular example hails from circa-1976 and features an original brown-gilt dial, which is surrounded by a two-tone brown and gold coloured bezel, hence the nickname ‘Rootbeer’. On this example the top-half of the bezel has faded to a feint copper, while the lower half is pale-gold, and looks spectacular in person.
Regular 1675’s had painted tritium markers, but the early Rootbeers, like the Gold 1680, had applied 18k Yellow Gold markers which catch and play with the light in the most amazing way, and are commonly referred to as ‘nipples’. The hands are also fashioned in yellow gold, with the original tritium still in place.
The case is nicely preserved. Has been polished, but retains thick lugs and excellent finishing.
Comes equipped on a 78363 Oyster bracelet with 480 endlinks. Has 9 links, with 2 spare in the box. Stretch is very minimal for its age. Date code on the clasp is A, which is correct for 1976.
Serviced by Rolex in June 2019, it winds super-smoothly and keeps COSC time.
Comes with outer box, inner box, original plexi, original crown, 2 spare links, RSC service card from 2019 and Watch Vault cleaning cloth.
Spectacular example of a 1675/3 – they don’t come much better.
