Grand Seiko Evolution 9 ‘White Birch’ Manual Wind Titanium SLGW003
Introduced at Watches and Wonders 2024, the SLGW003 introduced the fabulous 9SA4 manual wind movement, Grand Seiko’s first newly developed manual wind Hi-Beat movement in 50 years. But it’s not just all about the movement, as it also introduced Grand Seiko’s proprietary Brilliant Hard Titanium outside of the Masterpiece Collection, and combined with the sporty yet elegant Evolution 9 design it is one of their most impressive releases to date.
The case measures in at 38.6mm, with a 45.4mm lug-to-lug, and just 9.95mm thick. The Brilliant Hard Titanium is a beautiful mix of polished and brushed surfaces, with lovely proportions and is featherweight on the wrist. The White Birch dial within is classic modern Grand Seiko, with applied faceted markers which are slimmer than those found on the SLGH005, matching the sporty elegance of the case. It’s topped off with the Evolution 9 handset, with the blued seconds hands adding a welcome pop of colour. Who doesn’t love a blued seconds hand?
As amazing as all of this is, our favourite aspect of the watch is still that 9SA4 manual wind, Hi-Beat movement. Not only is it a technical powerhouse with its Dual Impulse Escapement, twin barrels, 80 hours of power reserve, free-sprung balance and overcoil hairspring, but has one of the most delectable winding clicks this side of a Laurent Ferrier. It’s also quite the looker.
This particular piece was first sold locally in August 2024 and presents in TZ ‘Near Mint condition’, with barely any hints of wear other than perhaps the very lightest of swirls and extremely small hairlines. Please see images for full condition details.
