Rolex Submariner Date 1680
The Rolex 1680 is a Sub in one of it’s most iconic forms, and a favourite of ours here at Watch Vault. Featuring a classic matte dial, plexiglass, silver date wheel, and in the perfectly proportioned pre-ceramic case, it features all the hallmarks of a classic Sub while still providing some of the best value in the vintage Rolex world in our opinion.
This particular example dates from circa-1976 and presents in very good vintage condition. Case is thick. Lugs are very even, with clear numbers between them. Case shows scratching, scuffs and dings commensurate with its age.
Bezel shows mild fade, with only light marks present. The matte dial is in fantastic condition. The tritium markers show a nice, even patina with some mild degradation visible under UV. Hands are a shade lighter than the markers, with some cracking to the tritium present visible under a loupe.
Silver date wheel in place with open 6’s and 9’s. The plexi has been replaced with a genuine domed Rolex non-cyclops T19, which is brilliant for those of us who aren’t in love with the cyclops. Shows some scratches as to be expected. The original cyclops plexi is also included in the sale. Please see images for full condition details.
Bracelet is a combination of 7836/0 links, a 9315/0 clasp, and aftermarket endlinks. Stretch is very reasonable for its age. Contains 11 links, and will suit a wrist size of up to around 8in at full clasp extension.
